Education after Trinity: Carlisle Technical College

Career to Date: Daniel Johnston's 1977 to 1982, Kings Road Tyres 1982 -1986 and now housewife and part time Ad production assistant at Cumberland News.

Where do you live now? Still in Carlisle

Details of spouse / partner, kids etc: Married to Gary since 1982 and we have two girls, Sara is 14 and Abigail is 7

If you could have your time at Trinity again, you would... : With hindsight concentrate more on work and less on the boys.

My brother also attended Trinity, he left in 1975, Steven (Ginge) Kemp, if anyone would like to contact him he would be delighted - He now lives in Bristol. Name of your class in exam year: 5E I think , my memory fails me.

Names of all the classmates you can remember: John Potter, Michael Mcall, Lesley Wilkinson, Paul Hammond, Nigel Proudfoot, Derek Findlayson, David Byrd, Christopher Napier, John Mackie, Michael ? (Blond curly hair), Paul ? , Richard Myers, Dawn Noble, Susan Nicholson? Julie Lomas, Julie Moffat, Arthur Edmondson, I'm sure there are a lot more. My memory buffers have expired.

What were the best things you remember about the school: The sudden freedom you had when you entered the 6th form. (Bunking off from games and several trips around town in study periods).

What were the worst things you remember about the school: Being Bullied in the first year 1H. Playing Rugby in the Snow. Been made to play football (not in the snow) Taking exams in the summer of 76 really hot.

Who were your favourite teachers: Mr Whitworth Maths. Mr Roe Biology.

What is the one lasting memory you have from your time at the school: There are so many and it's amazing how the memories come flooding back by reading other peoples comments. I wished I had taken a few more photos while I was there.

Details of your career to date: Now an Engineering manager in R & D with a large Mobile phone company.

Best thing that ever happened to you at Trinity: Scraping into the sixform with a bucket full of grade C 'O' levels.

If you could have your time again at Trinity, you would.....: Stand up for myself a bit more especially in the first few years.

Any other details : Would like to hear from anyone who remembers me. Where are Joe Roe and Dick Whitworth now. I would love to thank them for their input.

Names of all the classmates you can remember: Stuart 'Barney' Routledge, Kevin Nicholson, Kevin McCabe, Colin McClusky, Duncan Ostridge, Stuart Binnie, Peter Willis, Julie Eastman, Sonia Graham, Moira Peffers, Lynn Armstrong, Gwen Horseman, Trudy Hart, Karen Suddaby. Sorry, that's all I can be sure of.

What was your nickname at Trinity: "Irvy" Of all the nicks I've been given, it was the least imaginitive!

What were the best things you remember about the school: Nothing that I can be proud of now! I hated the place and the way it kept me a) bored & unmotivated b) open to 'abuse' from peers & teachers & c) killed my dreams of having an 'achieving' career.

What were the worst things you remember about the school: The bullying & intimidation destroyed my chance/desire for a 'normal' life and set me on the path to be an activist and iconoclast. It took me years to re-build my belief in myself after the damage that place did.

Who were your favourite teachers: Dr L D R Wilford PhD, after his first term (in which he was a total TW*T! Shaun Ferguson for introducing me to computers in 1972 - if only I'd known!

What is the one lasting memory you have from your time at the school: Leaving.

Details of your education after you left Trinity school: I've been learning & qualifying my whole life! Electrical & electronic engineering in 1979, (to BEng level) Television studio techniques in 1986, business management (NVQ4) in 1990, humanistic counselling (Ad Dip) in 1996, IT teaching to people with special needs 1998, to name the highlights.

Details of your career to date: (HIGHLIGHTS) Army 1979-82 (active service during Falklands war) Lance Corporal in REME as a rapier AA missile technician. TV Editor 1987-92. Made sports TV progs for pan-euro satellite station. Semi-pro sportsman 1984-1993. American football. Played in representative internationals for England * UK. Cannabis activist 1993-present. Also website designer/administrator & trainee 'iboga' therapist.

Where do you live now: In a beautiful thatched country house in the rural heartland of Holland between Amsterdam & Utrecht.

Family details - spouse, children etc: Single & happy, never fathered a child. Married once, never again.

Old school friends you'd like to trace: A few of the 'girls' to say sorry to, (but no names) and Mr bloody Stuart B***ie to find out if he ever realised what a loathsome bully was, and was sorry.

Best thing that ever happened to you at Trinity: Meeting a few people who are still my valued & trusted friends today...Barney, Reidy & Marion in particular.

If you could have your time again at Trinity, you would.....: Have refused POINT BLANK to have ever gone there.

Any other details: Although I hated everything about it, it made me who I am and I have no regrets about who I am, no-matter how unconventional a path my life has taken me on. Also I now appreciate that most other people there were in one way or another, just as screwed-up as me!

What were the best things you remember about the school: Rugby training with Joe Roe and Eric Haugh.

What were the worst things you remember about the school: French teachers, all of them. Probably due to my ineptitude at the subject.

Who were your favourite teachers: Joe Roe, that's it.

What is the one lasting memory you have from your time at the school: Nearly drowning in the deep end of the pool when someone jumped on my head.

Details of your education after you left Trinity school: Engineering HNC Royal Navy.

Details of your career to date: Royal Navy for 23 years, Test Engineer 3.5 years. Own car care business to date.

Where do you live now: Fareham Hants

Family details - spouse, children etc: Wife Tina, met when in Navy together - she is a dental hygienist. Two sons age 13 & 12, one into football and golf like myself, the other into hockey and karate.

What is the one lasting memory you have from your time at the school: Being dragged out of a meaningless CSE exam for writing Ian on the desk, when actually it said Jan, hope your reading this Janice Abbot

Details of your education after you left Trinity school: Fully qualified plasterer attended Technical College 1976 - 1979 City and Guilds

Details of your career to date: Plasterer working for Laing construction until 1980, worked for window company until 1987, joined Police for one year, rejoined window industry and started own business, still doing that to this day trading as M & B PVCu windows.

Where do you live now: Thurstonfield, 7 miles west of Carlisle

Best thing that ever happened to you at Trinity: I scraped enough CSEs to get an apprenticeship at Laings, apart from that leaving in the hot summer of '76 would be the best thing

If you could have your time again at Trinity, you would.....: Try a lot harder and have a career that doesnt need so much manual work

What were the best things you remember about the school: Some of the productions: The Midnight Folk, those written by Peter Sykes (yes, I do remember the Queen of Hearts Mandie!), the nautical one done by Bull and Bush, generally great teachers.

What were the worst things you remember about the school: Some of the bullying that went on; General Studies in the sixth form.

What is the one lasting memory you have from your time at the school: John Hammond's joie de vivre and musicality.

Details of your career to date: Spent 11 years on the staff at Sheffield University before moving to Exeter in the mid-1990s.

If you could have your time again at Trinity, you would.....: Like to have understood and been taught Maths at 'A'-level - I'm afraid that while Colin Rae was a nice guy, he wasn't a good teacher.
